CobraHead’s New Mini Weeder/Cultivator

I’m a big fan of gardening tools. I’m a bigger fan of gardening tools that work and work well. One of the tools that has had a constant presence in my garden toolbag is the CobraHead New Mini Weeder/Cultivator. In fact, I believe I’ve written about the CobraHead in this space before.

If I’ve written about it before, why am I writing about it again? Because CobraHead has a new version of the tool. The “Mini” measures 8.75 inches from base of handle (5 inches long) to tip of the blade (7 inches). This compares to the 13 inches of the original CobraHead.

Steel Fingernail Rip Dirt and Weeds

Let’s talk about the steel blade that appears on both versions of the tool. The nearly 2-inch long flattened tip is something the tool creators compare to a steel “fingernail,” with the handle and the curving blade acting as an extension of the user’s hand. The “fingernail,” being very sharp, can “scalp” a surface, effectively shaving weeds off the sidewalks or soil. Weeds in sidewalk cracks? Easy to rip right out. The blade can also cut through and into the ground easily and deeply, helping to dig weed roots. Use that tool with a bit of finesse and the blade can help wedge small seedlings out of the ground for transplanting elsewhere. Use that “fingernail” tip to create small furrows and holes to plant seeds and seedlings. Weeder, soil cultivator, hole maker—plus bag rip-opener and a dozen of other creative uses—the CobraHead Mini Weeder can replace trowels, hand forks and dibblers. Your garden tool bag just lost 5 pounds!

A Tough Handle

Let me not forget to mention the CobraHead handle. It is made from a mix of recycled plastic and organic strengthening fiber. They say the handle is molded around the blade shaft in a way that makes it impossible for the blade to become loose. And that handle sure is durable. My larger CobraHead, seen in the photo above, is at least 10 years old and is in great condition. In the photo you can also see a touch of rust on the shaft portion of the blade. Steel does rust, so try to keep your CobraHeads clean and dry.

The only question, really, is what size should you get? My guess is that you’ll find both work perfectly. Want to place an order for a Cobrahead Weeder/Cultivator? Find the right fit for you at CobraHead.com.
