Feeding a Nepenthes

Recently bought a tropical pitcher plant. Garden cente recommended using osmocote when there is no bugs. How many pellets do I feed it and do I put it right in the pitcher?

Thanks

Congrats on the purchase of your insect eating plant. Do not put the Osmocote or any fertilizer into the pitcher or open flower of the plant. That opening is only for digesting insects. Sprinkle the Osmocote around the roots of the plant and work it very gently into the soil. Instead of a rate based on the number of pellets Osmocote should be applied based on the size of the plant or container. For one small plant a half of a teaspoon would be about right. You can read more details on the amount of product to use by referring to the label on the package of Osmocote. The good news is you only have to fertilize once every 9 months or so. The nutrients are released slowly over time.  Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
