Fertilizer for Tomatoes in ProMix

I want to grow tomatoes to yield in pots filled with ProMix BX peat based media and want some recommendations for how to fertilize with Osmocote. I do not plan to add any soluble fertilizer, only Osmocote. I tried some soluble fertilizers and ended up with blossom end rot even though there was plenty of Calcium in the soil and irrigation was regular. I suspect excess Nitrogen contributed to BER as plants were quite vigorous. Can you please advise as how to grow tomatoes to yield in ProMix BX?

I have good luck growing potted tomatoes using only Osmocote as supplemental fertilizer. I simply follow the dosage instructions on the package of Osmocote and use 3 tablespoons or one scoopful of Osmocote per 2 gallon pot. Full sun and regular water will help beat blossom end rot but you are correct in that excess Nitrogen can contribute to the problem. Slow release plant foods like Osmocote cut back on the risks of overfeeding. Keep growing, Marianne Bineti
