Is Osmocote a Water Soluble Fertilizer?

Bought Osmocote Plus for my air plants. I put a little less than a cap of material in a gallon of purified water. Then put plants in for 45 minutes. Took out plants to dry. Did I do this right? Then poured water w/granules back in gallon jug. for next month. By then the granules should be dissolved. Will this be okay for next months fertilizing? Butch

The slow-release formula of Osmocote is not designed to be used in hydroponics or pure  water. It is formulated to use in soil and the ingredients are released very slowly when activated by the correct soil temperature. Perhaps a plant food made to dissolve in water (called a water soluble fertilizer) would be the best choice for your situation. Once dissolved the fertilizer can be sprayed onto the foliage of the air plant and the leaves can absorb the nutrients. Good luck and Keep Growing, Marianne Binetti
