Marianne's Response

Roses wintering in Pensacola, Florida

This summer was unusually hot and my rose bushes have lots of burned leaves and branches falling off. Can cut my bushes back to make it through the winter?

I suggest you just cut the roses back by one third this fall. Then in early spring you can cut them back hard leaving one to two feet of top growth. This will stimulate them to wake up and put on fresh new growth for the summer season. Be sure to fertilize after you do the spring pruning. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
