How to prune digiplexis

How far down the spike on a digiplexis do you go when pinching it?

Marianne's Response

Digiplexis is related to the native foxglove and after the tall spikes are done blooming follow the stem down to where it joins the main part of the plant and remove the entire stem. I always add some fertilizer such as Osmocote and water well after pruning back flowering perennials in mid summer. Last year I did get my digiplexis to bloom a second time by pruning back the blooming stalks, feeding and watering. I do not fertilize when I cut back plants in the fall or late summer as the shorter days are a sign to your plants to get ready for winter dormancy. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
