No zuchini or red tomatoes

Hello,

I have big beautiful zucchini plants, but no zucchini. I have a huge tomato plant, with green tomatoes that will not turn red until picked. I’m growing both of these organically and fertilize periodically. I live in central North Carolina.

The most common reason that zucchini do not bear fruit is lack of pollination. Perhaps you have less bees or it was a wet spring when the blossoms were out. Did you get flowers on the zucchini? Sometimes a high nitrogen plant food (many organic fertilizers are naturally high in nitrogen) will encourage more foliage over flowers. As for tomatoes, they ripen after so many heat units or warm days and nights depending on the variety. Check with the Master Gardeners in your area about tomatoes that do best in your climate. They will be a wealth of information on local weather and specific veggie types. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
