The mystery plant is Brunnera

I recently visited a friends garden and saw this beautiful plant with dainty bright blue flowers on it. The leaves were similar to a viola but much, much larger. Are you able to share with me the name of the plant?

Marianne's Response

Thanks for the photo - it always makes plant ID much easier. The mystery plant is a Brunnera and this variety is unusual with solid green leaves. Most of the newer brunnera have silver stripes or pale silver foliage. Brunnera is a perennial that does well in the shade and after the blue spring blooms fade the leaves grow larger and create a lovely foliage plant similar to hosta - but more slug resistant. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
