Christia Obcordata

Will Christia grow outdoors here in south Texas? We’ve recently been classified as zone 9. We do get an occasional freeze. Will Christia come back if it does freeze?

Thanks!

Marianne's Response

The amazing Swallowtail plant or Christia is a tropical plant grown as a houseplant as it will not survive a frost and must be moved indoors in your area. This is a new plant with striped foliage but worth growing indoors or outside in the summer. It likes part shade and good drainage. It has a taproot so is hard to transplant or divide. It may suffer in the dry heat of South Texas. Mist it often or bring indoors if it starts to suffer. Send us a photo - the leaves are stunning. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
