Marianne's Response

planting arrangement

I have 3 types of cantaloupe seeds, watermelon seeds of 3 kinds, and 2 types of cucumber seeds. Which ones can be planted next to one another?

Marianne's Response

When it comes to companion planting, Louise Riotte wrote the book on the topic (literally, Carrots Love Tomatoes is the title) and based on folk wisdom and science she says melons hate to grow near potatoes but like corn and sunflowers. Cucumbers like corn, beans, peas and radishes. So you should be okay to   plant any of your melons and cukes next to one another . Just know that melons are heavy feeders so rotate your crop to a new area next year or plant something different in that spot. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
